JEWELLERY CARE

It is essential that you look after your jewellery properly for longevity.
We suggest getting your jewellery checked regularly to ensure it is safe to wear without any danger of losing gemstones or causing any damage.
We will be happy to check your jewellery condition for you free of charge, and at this point we will also recommend any repairs or alterations that may be necessary for your jewellery.

Here are a few suggestions to keep your jewellery sparkling like new:

  • Remove your jewellery when carrying out any physical activity to avoid scratching, knocking or damaging – certainly remove your ring when going to the gym to lift weights or similar, to protect not only your ring but your finger too.
  • Remove your jewellery when applying lotions, perfumes or oils, pop your jewellery on after.
  • Keep your jewellery away from any harsh chemicals, especially chlorine/bleach (swimming pools/hot tubs etc)
  • When you are not wearing your jewellery, store it safely and separately to other jewellery to avoid scratching, knotting, knocking etc.
  • If you have lost or gained weight, make sure to get your rings resized so that they do not deform shape or get stuck on your finger.
  • Store your Diamonds separately to ensure they do not scratch or fracture against each other.
  • Remove your jewellery when you are doing housework involving using cleaning products or cooking and even showering to avoid chemicals/food/soap getting in the crevices of your jewellery as this can cause irritation to the skin, as well as your jewellery losing its sparkle.

When we check your jewellery, here are a few things that we will check:

  • Any wear to claws or settings of a gemstone.
  • Any loose stones in their settings.
  • Any fractures, weak points or porosity in the metal of your jewellery.
  • Loose clasps, hinges, fittings etc.
  • Any wear to chain links/end tags.
  • Any scuffs, chips or breaks in gemstones.
  • Any mis-shapen jewellery.
Cleaning your Jewellery
Many gemstones can be sensitive to hear, so ensure that you are only using warm water as opposed to boiling hot water when cleaning your jewellery.
You may even add a couple of drops of washing up liquid (avoid citrus scents) to your warm water and use a soft brush such as an extra soft toothbrush to get into the smaller, harder to reach areas of your jewellery. Then rinse your jewellery with clean water and dry with a lint free cloth being extra careful around claws or setting edges. Do not use a hair dryer/heat lamp or similar to dry your jewellery.
We Advise you to not submerge your Pearl, Coral, Amber or Opal Doublet/Triplet jewellery in water, as this can damage the gemstones.
If you are unsure of how to clean your jewellery, we are happy to book your jewellery in for a cleaning service.
A full clean and polish service is available to book at a cost of £25.00 per item, or £35.00 per item if White Gold (dropping to £30.00 each if more than one item).
We are happy to ultrasonic and steam your jewellery complimentary on us (this is not a full clean and polish service) – please ask for this.
